Governor Fubara Meets Wike With APC Governors and chieftain in Key Reconciliation Move
In what could be a major turning point for Rivers State politics, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has met with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, in a fresh bid to end their long-standing political rift.
Political analyst Obiarukwe Ndukwe revealed the details of this crucial meeting during an interview with TVC News. According to Ndukwe, Governor Fubara was not alone in this peace mission. He was accompanied by a high-powered delegation including the Governor of Ebonyi State, the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, and former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba. The meeting took place at Wike’s private residence.
“Fubara did not go alone to meet with Wike,” Ndukwe stated. “He went with the governor of Ebonyi State… the governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun was there, former Governor Olusegun Osoba was there. They took him to Wike's house and when he got in there, he walked straight to Wike's living room because that is a house he is used to and familiar with.”
This behind-the-scenes diplomacy is seen as a significant step toward restoring political stability in Rivers State. The familiar setting of Wike’s home served as a symbolic reminder of the once-close relationship between the two leaders before political disagreements drove them apart.
The timing of the reconciliation effort is crucial. Just last month, on March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to escalating political tensions threatening governance and public order. Against this backdrop, renewed dialogue between Fubara and Wike, guided by respected political elders, offers hope for a peaceful resolution.
The involvement of influential figures from other states underscores the seriousness of the reconciliation process. Their presence adds weight to the discussions and signals a wider regional concern over stability in Rivers State.
Governor Fubara’s choice to meet Wike face-to-face, rather than continue their dispute through indirect battles, marks a significant shift in approach. If successful, this initiative could lead to a more united leadership in Rivers State — refocusing attention on development and good governance instead of internal conflicts.
As the peace process continues, political watchers and residents alike will be monitoring closely to see if this truce holds. For now, the meeting offers a glimmer of hope in resolving one of the state’s most intense political standoffs in recent memory.
