Cristiano Ronaldo Tops Forbes' Rich List Again With Record £206M Earnings – Steph Curry Second, Tyson Fury Third

  • Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the top spot on Forbes' list of highest-paid athletes for the third year running
  • The Portuguese and Al Nassr forward earned an estimated £206.6 million in the past year

Cristiano Ronaldo has once again been named the world's highest-paid athlete, according to the latest Forbes list. The 40-year-old football icon earned an estimated £206.6 million ($275 million) over the last year — up £11.2 million from 2023.

This marks the third consecutive year, and the fifth time overall, that Ronaldo has led the prestigious ranking. A significant portion of his income comes from his reported £177 million annual salary at Saudi club Al-Nassr, following his move from Manchester United in December 2022.

Beyond his on-field earnings, Ronaldo continues to profit handsomely from sponsorship deals and his massive global social media presence, which now boasts 939 million followers.

Only Floyd Mayweather has surpassed Ronaldo's single-year earnings, with $300 million in 2015 and $275 million in 2018.

Ronaldo edged out NBA superstar Steph Curry, who ranked second with £117.1 million ($156 million), following a standout season in which he became the first player to reach 4,000 career three-pointers.

British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury rounded out the top three, pulling in £109.5 million ($146 million) after two high-profile bouts against Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh. The 36-year-old retired for the fifth time following his unanimous decision loss to Usyk in December, though speculation about a return continues.

Usyk narrowly missed the top 10, landing in 11th place with £75.8 million ($101 million).

Lionel Messi, Ronaldo’s long-time rival, dropped to fifth place with £101.3 million ($135 million) in earnings, including £56.2 million ($75 million) from off-field ventures such as his role promoting tourism in Saudi Arabia.

Karim Benzema, now playing for Saudi champions Al-Ittihad, placed eighth with £78 million ($104 million) in earnings.

Basketball stars LeBron James and Kevin Durant also made the list, along with NFL quarterback Dak Prescott and MLB players Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani.

Premier League top earner Erling Haaland ranked down at 34th, earning £46.5 million ($62 million) last year — £36 million ($48 million) of that coming from Manchester City.
