TikTokers Tee Dollar, TobiNation Sentenced to Six Months for Naira Abuse
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of two popular TikTok content creators, Babatunde Peter Olaitan (known as Tee Dollar) and Tobilola Olamide (known as TobiNation), for tampering with Naira notes during a social event.
Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, delivered the judgment on May 8, 2025, sentencing both individuals to six months’ imprisonment each. The sentence includes an option of a N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) fine.
The two were arrested by EFCC operatives after being seen in a viral TikTok video spraying N200 notes while dancing at a party held on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The charge against Olaitan stated:
"That you, Babatunde Peter Olaitan, on 8th April 2025, at 23, Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N200 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying it, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007."
A similar charge was brought against Olamide for the same incident and location.
Both individuals pleaded guilty to separate one-count charges of tampering with Naira notes. During the investigation, Olaitan admitted that he was sprayed with N200 notes by a fan and later sprayed them on others. The EFCC presented video evidence and extrajudicial statements in court, which were admitted and formed the basis of their conviction.
The EFCC emphasized that the successful prosecution is part of its broader crackdown on the abuse of the Nigerian currency, warning that similar violations will be met with strict legal consequences.
