2027 Elections Already Secured for APC – Party Chairman Yilwatda Declares

          Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda

Newly sworn-in National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared the 2027 general elections a foregone conclusion in favour of the ruling party.

“We will expand beyond bounds. By God’s grace, 2027 is a done deal for the APC,” Yilwatda said during his inaugural meeting with members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the Muhammadu Buhari House, APC’s national secretariat, shortly after taking his oath of office at the Presidential Villa.

Assuming office as the party’s 7th national chairman, Yilwatda arrived at the secretariat around 4:10 p.m., accompanied by other NWC members, to a warm reception from party staff and supporters.

Addressing NWC members and state chairmen, he likened the party to a vehicle that requires maintenance and steering.

“All of us here, especially the NWC members, are the mechanics — the party is the vehicle. We will fix it, drive it, and ensure it gets to the destination we all desire,” he said.

“With our collective efforts, this party will not only succeed but will become the pride and joy of the entire nation. That’s the vision I hope to achieve with all of you.”

He expressed confidence that APC would win the 2027 elections convincingly, citing growing public support for the party.

“I appreciate Nigerians for supporting and standing by the APC. Our doors remain open to welcome new members—governors, senators, lawmakers, local government chairmen, and more.”

The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation also pledged to strengthen the party’s structure and unity, assuring members of an influx of opposition figures into the APC under his leadership.

Meanwhile, in line with the party's return to its pre-August 2023 power-sharing arrangement, Deputy National Secretary Festus Faunter resigned his position, as the party’s constitution prohibits two NWC members from the same state. With Yilwatda also hailing from Plateau State, Faunter stepped down to maintain constitutional balance.

A minor reshuffle followed. Former National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, from the North Central zone, was elected to replace Faunter as Deputy National Secretary, while Muritala Aliyu Kankai from Katsina State became the new National Legal Adviser. Both officials were sworn in during the NWC meeting.
