2027: Sowore Rejects Opposition Coalition, Says He Won’t Join "Thieves to Fight Thieves"

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has dismissed any suggestion of joining the opposition coalition working to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

In a strongly worded statement on Tuesday, Sowore said he would not associate with politicians he blames for Nigeria’s decline, citing corruption, betrayal, and power abuse. “I didn’t partner with Bola Ahmed Tinubu in drug trafficking in Chicago,” he said. “I wasn’t involved with Atiku Abubakar in the looting of Customs. Nor did I join David Mark in squandering funds meant for fixing our telecom system or crushing the June 12 democratic struggle.”

He went on to name several political figures—including Abubakar Malami, Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi—whom he accused of playing roles in human rights violations, religious violence, and collaboration with oppressive regimes.

Sowore firmly rejected appeals to compromise his principles for political unity. “I have never joined a robbery gang or pledged loyalty to any cult, regardless of its popularity or influence. My allegiance is only to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the betrayed.”

He stressed his continued commitment to his #RevolutionNow movement, calling for a true coalition of justice and truth to free Nigeria from its current leaders. “Let it be known: I stand with a vanguard of justice. Nigeria must be rescued from these wrongdoers.”

Sowore’s remarks came amid growing pressure from civil society and opposition leaders urging him to join forces with other political actors. One notable appeal came from activist Deji Adeyanju, who in an open letter urged Sowore to reconsider his stance and join the coalition for the sake of national progress.

“Politics isn’t the same as activism or morality—it’s about numbers,” Adeyanju wrote, suggesting Sowore's involvement could galvanize broader support to oust the APC in 2027.
