2027: ADC is a deception, says Datti Ahmed


Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate and running mate to Peter Obi, has described the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC) as nothing more than a grand deception. He argued that many individuals who contributed to Nigeria’s collapse under former President Muhammadu Buhari are now regrouping in the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an interview on Channels TV, Baba-Ahmed blamed Nigeria’s crises on corrupt leadership selection and fraudulent elections, which he said fuel insecurity, corruption, and the destruction of national institutions.

He criticised Buhari’s government as one of the most corrupt in Nigeria’s history, recalling that Buhari himself once served in the Abacha regime, from which Nigeria is still recovering looted funds. According to him, Buhari and his political circle were driven by self-interest and campaign funding rather than service to the nation, likening them to “wolves” once they got power.

On the migration of Buhari-era figures into the ADC, he said: “They are deceiving Nigerians. Those who destroyed the country from 2015 to 2023 cannot suddenly rebrand themselves under a new party and claim they want to fix it.”

Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party and Peter Obi, declaring: “I am in Labour Party, for God’s sake. I am a Peter Obi man, and I want him to contest again in 2027.”
