2027: Ex-presidential aspirant urges Jonathan to run, says Nigeria needs him now more than ever

Former presidential hopeful of the Action Democratic Party, Mathias Tsado, has called on allies of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to persuade him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Tuesday, Tsado—who was the Liberation Movement’s presidential candidate in 2019—argued that Jonathan’s return remains the most practical answer to Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.

“We need him in 2027. This isn’t about politics but about rescuing Nigeria. He has the right experience, temperament, and vision to steer the country away from collapse,” he said.

Tsado maintained that Jonathan’s administration left behind democratic values and reforms that, if revived, could help restore national stability. He further described the former president as a unifying figure admired by many Nigerians.

He also urged Jonathan’s associates to speak with one voice in convincing him to join the race, emphasizing that the country is at a decisive turning point.

“Nigeria needs him more than ever. His style of leadership can calm rising tensions and refocus the economy,” Tsado added.

His remarks come amid growing speculation over likely contenders for the 2027 presidential elections. Although Jonathan has not declared any interest, Tsado insisted that he remains the country’s best hope for recovery.
